MESA, Ariz. – Cubs infielder Tommy La Stella, who missed most of last season with an oblique injury, left Monday’s spring training game against the Kansas City Royals because of what the team called right calf soreness.

La Stella, considered an important left-handed bat for Joe Maddon’s bench, did not have a fielding chance and didn’t bat Monday before leaving the game at the end of the first inning.

The injury did not appear to be serious
