Lane closures are scheduled to begin Monday on local roads in northwest suburban Des Plaines and Gilberts as construction continues on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway.
The closures are necessary to accommodate the construction of new lanes in each direction on I-90, according to a statement from the Illinois Tollway.
Beginning the week of March 7, one lane in both directions is scheduled to close intermittently over the next two weeks on Wolf Road in Des Plaines for drainage and bridge construction. One lane in both directions will remain open to traffic, according to the statement.
Overnight lane closures are scheduled to begin Monday and last two weeks on Touhy Avenue in Des Plaines for bridge beam removal. When closures are needed, one lane in both directions will close at 9 p.m. and full roadway closures, lasting 15 minutes, are scheduled between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., according to the statement.
Beginning Tuesday, overnight lane closures on Higgins Road in Gilberts are scheduled for bridge beam installation. Two eastbound lanes will close at 8 p.m., and fill roadway closures, lasting 15 minutes, are scheduled between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.
All lanes on Higgins Road will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday. The same closures are scheduled on Wednesday in the westbound lanes, and all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday, according to the statement.
The construction on I-90 between Elgin and I-294 is part of the $2.5 billion I-90 Rebuilding and Widening Project. The eastern portion of I-90 is being rebuilt to provide four lanes in each direction between Randall Road and I-294, according to the statement.
The project also required the reconstruction of I-90 bridges over local roads between Illinois Route 53 and I-294, including: Golf Road, Arlington Heights Road, Busse Road, Oakton Street, Mount Prospect Road, Wolf Road, Touhy Avenue, Mannheim Road and Higgins Road in Rosemont.
