ESPN is removing Mike Ditka from “Sunday NFL Countdown” and replacing him with longtime quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, the website The Big Lead reported Tuesday.

Ditka isn’t leaving ESPN, just the show. He reportedly will have an unspecified emeritus-type NFL role at the network. Hasselbeck, who spent the last three seasons with the Colts, is expected to join ESPN this week.

Hasselbeck is an unrestricted free agent and has expressed a desire to play one more season. But he was in negotiations with ESPN to be the network’s second big addition this offseason, following Charles Woodson.
