A driver was critically injured early Wednesday when his Chevrolet rolled over on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) on the West Side.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 3:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-290 near Oakley Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

The man, whose exact age was not known, was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. He was the only occupant of the car and no one else was injured in the crash.

The right shoulder, right lane and the ramp to Western Avenue were all temporarily closed to traffic during the morning commute, but everything was reopened by 7 a.m., police said.

It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash as authorities investigate the cause.
