A man fatally shot his passenger, then himself in an SUV on the Kennedy Expressway early Sunday on the Northwest Side, authorities said.
Crews responded about 4 a.m. to the shooting in the northbound lanes of the expressway north of Armitage Avenue, where they found a silver Chevrolet Tahoe that had stopped on the expressway, according to Illinois State Police.
The 43-year-old driver, Eric L. Taylor, and 36-year-old passenger, Camille C. Cooley, were each found with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 4:28 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy Monday ruled Taylor’s death a suicide, according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 600 block of Helmholz Avenue in Waukegan.
Cooley’s death was ruled a homicide. Police said she lived in Waukegan, but her home address was listed in the 11400 block of South Calumet Avenue in Chicago by the medical examiner’s office.
Police said a handgun was found inside the vehicle on the floor near the driver. The shooting may have been a domestic-related incident, police said. It remains under investigation.
