A man was fatally struck by a train headed for Chicago on Friday night in northwest suburban Palatine.

The 24-year-old was struck about 9:30 p.m. by an inbound Union Pacific/Northwest Line train at Hicks Road, about halfway between the Palatine and Arlington Park stations, according toa Metra spokesman and Palatine police.

Adam Jamal Grainawi, of the 200 block of South Vail Avenue in Palatine, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:58 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

His cause and manner of death are pending further investigation, according to the medical examiner’s office.
