A man was fatally struck by a train headed for Chicago on Friday night in northwest suburban Palatine.

The 24-year-old was struck about 9:30 p.m. by an inbound Union Pacific/Northwest Line train at Hicks Road, about halfway between the Palatine and Arlington Park stations, according to a Metra spokesman and Palatine police.

Adam Jamal Grainawi, of the 200 block of South Vail Avenue in Palatine, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:58 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

His cause and manner of death are pending further investigation, according to the medical examiner’s office.
