A Wisconsin man was killed when a Metra Rock Island District train struck a vehicle Sunday evening in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Inbound train No. 126 struck the vehicle just before 7:14 p.m. near 119th Street, according to Metra. According to witnesses, the driver drove around downed crossing gates while the lights were flashing in an attempt to beat the train.

The only person in the vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Brian Eric Reynolds, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 900 block of Grandview Avenue in Tomah, Wisconsin.

An autopsy found he died of multiple injuries from the crash, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.
