A man was killed and another critically injured when a car slammed into a tree and a light pole Friday morning in Austin on the West Side.

Emergency crews responded just after 10 a.m. to the crash in the 5000 block of West Chicago Avenue, according to Chicago Police.

A Kia had been eastbound on Chicago went it went off the road and into a tree before wrapping around a pole, police said.

The driver, 25-year-old Blake Grady, was pronounced dead on the way to Stroger Hospital, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 1700 block of North Lotus.

The passenger, another 25-year-old man, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Unit is looking into the cause of the crash.
