A motorcyclist who disobeyed a red light signal was critically hurt in a crash in north suburban Wadsworth, police said.

About noon Monday, police responded to the crash at the intersection of North Delany and Wadsworth roads.

The preliminary investigation, along with witness statements, determined that a Toyota Corolla was traveling south on Delany through the intersection, police said. The driver of the motorcycle, who disobeyed a red light, was traveling west on Wadsworth Road and struck the Toyota in the intersection.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and taken to Adovcate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to Vista East Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.

The Lake County sheriff’s office was investigating.
