Chicago Police will ramp up officers’ presence Monday at Jones College Prep High School after a violent threat was made on social media against students at the South Loop campus.

A police spokesman said the threat is not valid, but additional officers will be at the school throughout the day as a precaution.

A recent Instagram post shows a gun and threatens a shooting at the school at 700 S. State St.

“Jones College Prep is aware of a recent social media post, and is working with CPS Safety & Security and the Chicago Police Department, who are investigating the situation,” according to a statement posted to the selective-enrollment school’s website. “While the investigation is ongoing, the school will have additional security starting Monday (5/9), and are urging everyone to come to school as normal. Students and parents are encouraged to anticipate a longer check-in at the beginning of the day.”

“Please be assured that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” the statement said.

Police said early Monday no one was in custody in connection with the threats.
