A man was shot to death early Monday in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responding about 1:30 a.m. to a call of a person shot in the 7300 block of South University found 22-year-old Eugene Singleton lying in the gangway, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Singleton was shot in the head and back and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:18 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the 700 block of East 84th Place.
