A young boy was saved Wednesday after nearly drowning during a swimming lesson at a west suburban pool.
Firefighters responded to Quarry Park Pool at 400 S. Water Street in Batavia at 2:34 p.m., and found the boy was already out of the water and being treated by pool staff, according to the Batavia Fire Department.
He was breathing and conscious when paramedics arrived, but was taken to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva to be checked out, a statement from fire officials said.
The boy was taking a swimming test when he went under water, officials said. Staff members immediately pulled him from the pool and started first aid.
Firefighters credited the pool’s employees for their “quick actions, which helped save the child’s life,” the statement said.
