A good 10-point, Illinois: Buck of the Week

There’s always a bigger one.

Take Danny Vallos, who shot “Ole Narly,’’ a big 10-point buck, on opening morning of first firearm deer season on Nov. 20 on a friend’s farm in Schuyler County.

But, the Mokena man emailed, “I passed on his bigger brother about 10 minutes before at about 80 yards. I didn’t like the shot!!! This guy snuck in on my blind side when I was watching the other walk off.’’

They estimated it at 285 pounds with a rack score of a conservative 150.

“Being former butchers, we caped him and process our own harvest,’’ he emailed.

BOTW, the celebration of good stories and big bucks bagged around Chicago outdoors, appears Wednesdays on the Sun-Times outdoors page when apt.
