A man was killed and another wounded in a Gary, Ind. drive-by shooting late Thursday.

The men, ages 21 and 24, were outside the Delaney Community public housing complex in the 2100 block of Polk Street about 10 p.m. when a red Ford Fusion pulled up and a man opened fire from the passenger seat, according to Gary Police Lt. Thomas Pawlak said.

The older man, identified by the Lake County coroner’s office as Terrence L. Sallee II, was dead at the scene. He lived nearby in the 2100 block of Carver Street, authorities said.

The younger man was shot in the head and throat and taken to a hospital, Pawlak said. His exact condition was unknown but he was alive as of Saturday evening.

Police said the men shot had documented gang ties.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the two men who were in the Fusion. Anyone with information should call the homicide unit at (219) 755-3852.
