There’s no such thing as an easy rebound in basketball.

Even as one appears to be open for a quick hop to grab a misguided shot, someone half his size can speed past and snatch the ball before there’s any time to react. This is a lesson the Maryville basketball coach will be drilling into the heads of his future players after an exhibition match against Southern Illinois.

The Salukis made easy work of the D-II Maryville squad 106-77 but senior guard Anthony Beane’s put-back slam in the first half set the precedence for the contest. Beane emphatically scored over a defender on a rather poor offensive sequence.

It has to be unfair on the big men in basketball when you consider they have to deal with players who are barely 6-feet tall that can jump like that.
