In beating Washington 45-10, the Bears scored their most points since their 61-7 victory against Green Bay Dec. 7, 1980. The victory also was the Bears’ 12th in 14 games at Soldier Field, 15th of 19 on artificial turf and 15th of 19 with Jim McMahon starting. It also extended a streak of winning all 11 games in which Dennis McKinnon has caught a touchdown pass.

Walter Payton’s touchdown pass was his eighth in the NFL. The touchdown he scored was his 99th. McMahon’s touchdown catch was his second.

The Bears made only two third-down conversions. Both went for touchdowns. They led 14-10 by the time they made a first down that wasn’t a touchdown.
