The Cubs’ youngsters catcher/outfielder Kyle Schwarber and pitcher Ryan Williams were announced as members of the MLB Pipeline’s Organizational Prospects of the Year list Thursday.
MLB.com chose the best positional prospect and top pitching prospect of each of the major league farm systems. According to the site, “Candidates were taken from each club’s Top 30 Prospects list, with a combination of performance and prospect status taken into account.”

This season with the Tennessee Smokies, Williams has a 14-3 record, 98 strikeouts and a 2.16 ERA. Judging from his minor league numbers, Williams was a steal in the 10th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
Schwarber has been a nice power-punch in the Cubs lineup this season. Through 56 games, the rookie has 16 homers and 42 RBIs. He recently hit two long balls against the Phillies to save the Cubs from a four-game sweep.
Last week, Schwarber was named to the MLBPipeline.com Prospect Team of the Year.
