White Sox host Twins in home opener

Hoping to rebound from a disappointing 0-3 start in Kansas City, the White Sox are set to play their home opener against the Minnesota Twins this afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field.

First pitch is set for 3:10, with right-hander Hector Noesi starting for the Sox against Twins lefty Tommy Milone. The Twins are also 0-3 after getting swept by the Detroit Tigers.

Fans were out early in full tailgate force for the sold-out opener. Jose Contreras, from the Sox 2005 World Series champions, is throwing out the first pitch. Tim McIlrath, lead singer of Rise Against, will perform the National Anthem. Gates to the ballpark open at 1:10 p.m.

“It’s not a must win but you’d like to come home and win this one,” Ventura said.

“It feels like we’ve been on the road a long time. We go from Arizona to Charlotte and you have quite a few off days [before and between games] in Kansas City. It’s nice to get home. For guys who’ve been here, it feels like home.
