Federico Saavedra caught a perch so big at the North Slip north of 87th Street that he, well, let him tell it, “At first I thought it was a small salmon, but then I realized it was a really big perch.’’

That “really big perch” weighed 1.3 pounds at Henry’s Sports and Bait. Saavedra was fishing large fatheads on a crappie rig.
