It’s a lesson that people seem to continuously learn. Things put on social media are, by definition, not private.
Notre Dame defensive end Jay Hayes will not be allowed to play this week against UMass because of a tweet he sent.
The since deleted tweet read “When a coach stops coaching you…that’s when you jus [sic] gotta move on.”
Head coach Brian Kelly said while Hayes will dress for the game, he will not be on the traveling roster. Kelly said the punishment is directly because of the tweet.
Losing Hayes isn’t exactly a back-breaker for the Irish. Hayes has yet to play this season, and only played in two games last season, tallying a pair of tackles.
Hayes has yet to tweet again since the controversial message. Kelly said Hayes will travel and be available to the team next week against Clemson.
The defensive tackle was a four-star recruit coming out of New York. He also had offers from Michigan and Oregon.
