A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot Sunday evening in south suburban Riverdale.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 7:25 p.m. in the 14300 block of South Dearborn Street found Rashad Oliver lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

Oliver, of the 0-100 block of East 144th Street in Riverdale, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:39 p.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiners’ office.

He was a student at Lincoln Junior High School in Dolton and the district will make extra staff available for students at the school, Riverdale Police said.

Riverdale police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating. Anyone with information can call police at (708) 841-2203, ext. 2.
