Illinois deer hunting: Harvest updates

ARCHERY DEER Through Tuesday, January 6, 2015, Illinois archery deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 53,434 deer, compared to 54,922 for the same period in the 2013-14 archery deer season. Harvest to date has consisted of 47% does and 53% males (25,092F: 28,342M). Top five counties are Pike (2053), Fulton (1483), Jefferson (1325), Adams (1165), and JoDaviess (1088). LATE WINTER/SPECIAL CWD SEASONS Illinois deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 2,986 deer during the first segment (January 1-4) of the Late Winter Antlerless Deer Season and the Special CWD Season. Thirty-five counties were open to the Late Winter Antlerless Deer Season, compared to 55 last year. Twelve counties were open to the Special CWD Season, compared to 11 last year. During the first segment of these seasons last year (2013-2014), 5,361 deer were harvested. The Special CWD Season is conducted to help manage deer populations in counties where Chronic Wasting Disease has been found in the deer herd. A table of county results is attached.
