SHARE Stevenson lane closures Saturday for Damen Avenue bridge inspection

Lanes on the Stevenson Expressway will be closed Saturday morning on the Southwest Side as crews inspect a bridge at Damen Avenue.

The routine bridge inspection will start at 6 a.m. and should wrap up by 11 a.m., the state’s Department of Transportation said.

The two left lanes of the expressway (I-55) will be closed in each direction in a moving operation until 8 a.m., IDOT said. Then, between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., one lane will be closed in each direction, also in a moving operation.

Closures will alternate between the inbound and outbound directions to allow traffic to clear, IDOT said. At least one lane will be open to traffic at all times.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area.
