A woman killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident early Wednesday in northwest suburban Des Plaines has been identified.

A driver spotted the woman’s body lying on the north side of Central Road just east of River Road at 3:55 a.m., according to a statement from Des Plaines police.

She has since been identified as Vanessa Colon, 31, of the 9900 block of Holly Lane in Des Plaines, police said.

She was apparently walking east on Central on a dark stretch of roadway when she was struck by a vehicle also heading east, according to police.

Police do not have information about the vehicle that struck her.
