With a day off between playing the Spurs and the Nuggets, Derrick Rose made some Chicago students very happy. During an event with After School Matters, Rose and adidas gave away thousands of dollars in gifts.

As reported by Fox Chicago, Rose surprised 25 students at the adidas store and gave each one of them a gift card worth $500. The former MVP said it’s all about giving back.

“It’s all about just giving back. You know, when I was younger I didn’t have the experience or opportunity to come to a store and get a gift card or anything, or even be in a store like this downtown period.”

Rose joked that he wasn’t pushing any of the students to buy anything from the adidas D Rose collection, but if they want to they can.
