A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers found Davion Funches unresponsive on a sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the chest at 4:38 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Rockwell, according to Chicago Police.

Funches, who lived on the 6000 block of South Albany, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:18 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
