A man was attacked and beaten during a robbery early Wednesday near the Magnificent Mile.

The man, 35, was walking on the sidewalk in the 100 block of East Chestnut about 2 a.m. when two males approached him from behind and hit him, police said.

The males took the victim’s backpack, which held his cellphone, wallet and other items, police said. They then ran away.

The man was taken Saint Joseph Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. He was expected to be treated and released.
