An elderly woman drove her vehicle through a restaurant window Thursday afternoon in southwest suburban Joliet.

The 85-year-old woman turned her vehicle off the street about 12:45 p.m. and accelerated into a strip mall parking lot, then crashed the vehicle through the window of Aisha’s Southern Cuisine, at 2775 Black Rd., according to Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton.

There were no customers inside the restaurant at the time, Benton said. The woman was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for examination.

No citations were issued, but the driver was referred to the Secretary of State for review.
