Police shot a man who allegedly brandished a rifle at them outside a south suburban nightclub early Friday.

About 4 a.m., officers responded to a call of a man with a gun on the street outside the club near the intersection of 159th Street and Page Avenue in Harvey, city spokesman Sean Howard said.

When officers arrived, the man–whose exact age wasn’t immediately available–pointed a 9mm rifle in their direction, and they opened fire “in fear for the safety of their lives,” Howard said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening, Howard said.

Charges were pending against him Saturday afternoon.
