A 52-year-old north suburban man was struck and killed by a car while crossing a street in Evanston Saturday morning.

At 10:23 a.m., he was walking eastbound across the 800 block of Dodge Avenue when a northbound car hit him, Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

Mircea Bembea, of the 6600 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in Lincolnwood, was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital, where he died at 11:36 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver, a 49-year-old Evanston woman, stayed at the scene, Dugan said. No charges or citations had been issued as of late Saturday afternoon.
