John Fox says he was disappointed in Bears ‘execution’ on fourth down play

Although Bears quarterback Jay Cutler failed to convert a critical fourth down throw, coach John Fox said he ‘didn’t dislike’ the play calling, but was more concerned with the way the play was carried out.

In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Packers, the Bears had a first-and-goal at Green Bay’s 6-yard line down 24-16. Cutler failed to connect on four consecutive pass plays to any of his receivers for a touchdown.

In a Monday press conference, Fox said he doesn’t regret the decision to air the ball out, but questioned the way his team carried out the red zone series.

Even though Cutler was having a decent game up until that point, running back Matt Forte was having an excellent game. Forte finished the night with 144 rushing yards and touchdown, which left many baffled by Fox’s decision to pass on the goal line.

Right tackle Kyle Long took blame for Cutler’s inaccuracy by noting, “It’s because there’s a guy with his arms up his face.”
