Two Chicago Police officers were injured early Monday when their squad car crashed into a pole during a chase in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

About 2:25 a.m., Grand Crossing District officers in pursuit of a vehicle crashed their squad car into the pole in the 6500 block of South Ellis, police said.

The chase started in the 6600 block of South University, but it was not immediately known why the pursuit started, police said.

The officers were both taken to Stroger Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. They were expected to be treated and released.

A police source said the vehicle they were chasing sped away after the crash.
