Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a grassy area Thursday afternoon in northwest Indiana.

Officers responding at 2:24 p.m. to a call for a possible human body near Maryland Street and 27th Avenue in Gary found the man in a grassy area, according to a statement from Gary police.

He has since been identified as 19-year-old Isaiah Edwards of the 4800 block of Forrest Court in Gary, according to a statement from the Lake County coroner’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:30 p.m.

An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the coroner’s office.
