A gas station clerk was shot to death early Thursday outside a Park Manor neighborhood gas station on the South Side.

The 45-year-old man was arguing with a male about 12:40 a.m. in the Citgo station parking lot in the 6600 block of South State when shots were fired, according to Chicago Police.

Marwan Sadeq was shot in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:01 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 10600 block of South Parkside Avenue in Chicago Ridge.

The parking lot was taped off, and the man’s body could be seen on the ground outside the front glass door, which was stained with blood.

A man who said he was buying food inside the gas station at the time said he heard an argument outside, then heard three shots and saw the man “trying to run in the door, but he couldn’t open the door, and he just collapsed right there where he’s at.”

Another employee of the gas station, Ahmed Awadh, who was also inside at the time, said the victim was from Yemen and had worked at the gas station for two months. “He was a nice guy. Had had a family, four kids…It’s sad.”

“We don’t know what the f— happened,” Awadh said. “Why did he get killed? Why did he deserve [this]?”
