A 73-year-old man died after he fell off a boat into Lake Barrington Friday morning in the northwest suburb of the same name.

Boyd Jajesnica, who lived in the village of Lake Barrington, was boating on the lake shortly before 10:30 a.m. when he lost his balance and fell into the water, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office. He was not wearing a flotation device and was not able to stay above water.

He was underwater for about 10 minutes before Wauconda Fire District crews reached him and pulled him out, the sheriff’s office said.

Jajesnica was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he died Saturday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office.
