A 45-year-old man from west central Illinois died Saturday of injuries suffered in a crash nearly three months earlier in DeKalb.

About 1 p.m. April 30, Larry Dunlap was driving a Ford Five Hundred north on Peace Road when he lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Lincoln Highway, veered into oncoming traffic, and smashed into a Buick LeSabre, according to DeKalb Police Cmdr. James McDougall and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Both drivers were taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, McDougall said.

Dunlap later was transferred to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. He lived in the 4000 block of Osbron Street in Plano.

An autopsy Monday found Dunlap died of complications from multiple injuries in the crash and ruled his death an accident.

The 72-year-old man at the wheel of the Buick suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, McDougall said.

A police report said Dunlap was driving too fast for rainy conditions at the time of the crash. No charges or citations were issued.
