A 4-year-old girl was hospitalized after she was found unresponsive inside a hot car Tuesday afternoon in northwest suburban McHenry.

The girl overheard a conversation about going to her grandmother’s house for dinner, so she went outside and climbed into the family car, parked on Holly Court in unincorporated McHenry, without anyone’s knowledge about 3:30 p.m., according to the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

Her family began looking for her about 10 or 15 minutes later, and found her in the car unresponsive, according to the sheriff’s office. Her mother took her out of the car and called 911.

She was initially taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, and later transferred to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her condition was not disclosed.

The girl’s family is cooperating with the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
