Two people were wounded, one of them critically, in a shooting late Wednesday in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot at 11:41 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Lorel found the men, ages 21 and 31, in the hallway of an apartment building, according to Chicago Police.

The 31-year-old was shot in the head and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. The younger man was shot in the right calf and was also taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized.

A police source said both men are documented gang members.
