A man who ran away after he was ejected from a vehicle in a crash Friday night was safely located more than 12 hours later near north suburban Antioch.

Just before 9 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a missing person at a residence in the 41600 block of North Lotus Avenue, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

A resident told deputies that a friend came to the house with obvious injuries after running away from a nearby crash, the sheriff’s office said. The resident believed the 46-year-old Gurnee man had been ejected from the vehicle.

The man asked his friends not to call 911, but they did anyway. They reported him missing after he ran away from the house, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies found the man sleeping at another residence on North Lotus Avenue about 9:45 a.m. Saturday. He was taken in an ambulance to the hospital with injuries from the crash “as well as other medical conditions,” the sheriff’s office said.

“It’s very possible without being located, this man could have faced a very grave outcome,” Lake County Undersheriff Ray Rose said.

The circumstances of the initial crash are still under investigation.
