BOURBONNAIS — Bears first-round pick Leonard Floyd rode off the field in the back of a golf cart 45 minutes into the first training camp

practice Thursday at Olivet Nazarene University.

He had been battling an illness for the past few days, coach John Fox said.

“He was sick,” Fox said. “He tried to go. He’s a tough kid; he just didn’t make it through.”

Floyd had an I.V. after practice.

Trainers knew about Floyd’s lingering illness — he called it “a little stomach bug” — and told they would monitor him once practice began. Eventually, they told him to come out.

“I really was begging them to go back out there,” Floyd said. “They told me to shut it down and try again (Friday) … I don’t like to sit out. They recommended I take it easy today.”

The Bears want Floyd, drafted No. 9 overall, to play around 240 pounds in his rookie year. GM Ryan Pace said Wednesday, though, that the team is more concerned with maintaining his explosiveness than they are with him weighing in at a specific spot.

Outside linebacker Roy Robertson-Harris and tackle Nick Becton also left practice due to illness, Fox said. More notably, tight end Khari Lee didn’t finish because of a sprained AC joint in his shoulder. Guard Kyle Long did not finish practice because of a minor calf injury.
