A 37-year-old woman was shot and killed last week in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Jamie Varvaris was discovered with a gunshot wound to the right buttock on the sidewalk in the 3200 block of West 62nd Street at 12:43 a.m. July 20 by officers responding to reports of shots fired, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Varvaris was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:58 a.m., authorities said. She lived on the same block where she was shot.

An autopsy found she died of a gunshot wound to the back, and her death was ruled a homicide.
