Suburban Republican officials have chosen a replacement to fill the term of former state Rep. Ronald L. Sandack, the outspoken ally of Gov. Bruce Rauner who resigned abruptly on July 24.

David Olsen, 27, a member of the Downers Grove village council, was picked by the Republican Party chairmen of DuPage and Will counties to represent the 81st House district through January.

Olsen said Saturday he plans to run for a full term in November, squaring off against a familiar face: Democrat Greg Hose, a fellow member of the Downers Grove council.

Olsen’s campaign fund had $27,198 on hand at the end of June, according to reports filed with the state. Hose’s had $34,445.

Olsen plans to resign his village council seat and be sworn into the state Legislature on Wednesday.

He will continue as vice president of the College of DuPage board of trustees.

He works as a compliance and ethics analyst for BP Corporation North America, an energy trading company.

Sandack was a close ally of Rauner’s during the partisan stalemate that left the state without a budget for more than a year. Sandack told the Chicago Tribune he quit after his social media accounts were hacked, saying, “Politics has gotten too ugly.”

Downers Grove police have released few details of the reported hacking incident, saying it’s the subject of an “ongoing criminal investigation.”
