A driver has been taken into custody after he and six other people — including five children — were injured in a two-vehicle crash late Tuesday in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side.

About 11 p.m., a 2008 Chevrolet car was speeding southbound in the 700 block of South Central Park when it rear-ended a 1998 Lincoln car stopped in traffic, according to Chicago Police.

Six people inside the Lincoln were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including an 8-week-old girl; a 4-year-old girl; a 5-year-old boy; an 8-year-old boy; a 14-year-old girl; and the 35-year-old woman driving, police said.

The 21-year-old man driving the Chevrolet was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital, according to police and Fire Media Affairs Chief Juan Hernandez. He has been taken into custody.
