A woman was killed in a traffic crash in northwest suburban Elgin late Saturday morning.

Susan Desensi, 54, was the passenger on a motorcycle going west on Route 20, driven by a 56-year-old man who lost control of the bike and crashed about 11:45 a.m. while swerving to avoid a Honda Accord making a left turn in front of them from Highland Woods Boulevard, according to Elgin police and the Kane County coroner’s office.

The pair on the motorcycle were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, police said.

Desensi, of Bartlett, was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m., the coroner’s office said. An autopsy Tuesday ruled a preliminary cause of death as cranio-cerebral injuries due to the motorcycle mishap. Toxicology samples were sent to the forensic laboratory for analysis.

The man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. The 18-year-old Addison woman at the wheel of the Honda stayed at the scene and was not hurt.

The intersection near the crash site was shut down for more than three hours as crews cleared the scene.

No citations or charges had been issued for the crash as of Saturday afternoon. Police ask anyone who might have seen it to call detectives at (847) 289-2661. Tips can also be sent via text message to 847411 with “ELGINPD” in the first line.
