A man was critically wounded in a shooting early Thursday in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 34-year-old was on the street in the 4000 block of North Kedzie about 4:20 a.m. when he was shot twice in the back, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Shermain Sargent, 41, is accused of beating Timothy Ash, 74, on Jan. 7 in the 6400 block of South King Drive. Ash died Jan. 12 of injuries suffered from the assault, the medical examiner reported.
