A 31-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday evening when he was thrown from his motorcycle in a crash near west suburban Sugar Grove, according to the Kane County sheriff’s office.

About 6:40 p.m., a 16-year-old girl driving east on Jericho Road in a 2010 Dodge Charger slowed to turn north onto McCannon Road in Sugar Grove Township, the sheriff’s office said. As she slowed, a second vehicle behind her also slowed.

Pawel Czop of Schaumburg was riding his 2010 Honda motorcycle behind both vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office. Czop pulled into oncoming traffic to try to pass the vehicles as they slowed down, and his bike struck the rear driver’s side of the Charger as it was turning.

Czop, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Charger was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora and treated for minor injuries, police said.

Jericho Road was closed for about four hours as the crash was investigated, police said. No citations were issued.
