A resident of west suburban St. Charles interrupted a burglary at his home Tuesday afternoon.
At 1:22 p.m., the man returned to his home in the 700 block of Mosedale Street and noticed a car running, parked and unoccupied in front of his house in a no-parking zone, according to a statement from St. Charles police.
As he pulled into his driveway and opened his overhead garage door, he saw someone run out of the back of the house, police said. He went to the running car, thinking that it belonged to the burglar.
The suspect knocked the man over and took off west in a green, older SUV, police said.
The resident suffered a small cut to the elbow when he was knocked down and was treated at the scene by the St. Charles Fire Department.
The suspect was described as a black male, about 5-foot-7 and 175 pounds, police said. He was wearing a baseball hat and dark sunglasses.
It appears he got into the house by removing a window well cover and breaking a window into the basement, police said. No one was home at the time of the break-in.
Investigators are working with the resident to determine what was taken.
