A Cook County Jail detainee is facing new charges after being charged with throwing feces at a jail guard for the second time in a week.

Vernon Patterson, 26, faces a new count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office, which said he threw feces at a deputy Saturday night after doing the same thing and also punching a deputy Aug. 2, resulting in charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer.

Patterson has been jailed since December, charged with home invasion with a firearm, and iss being held on $100,000 bail.

The 59-year-old was found about 7 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Chappel Avenue with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, police said.
