A 19-year-old man was shot in the back in the in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side on Friday.

The man was walking in the 5200 block of West LeMoyne about 12:20 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Chicago Police said.

Area North detectives are investigating.
