A 27-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon after he was pulled from Lake Michigan at Diversey Harbor.

Alexander Fortis was pulled from the water in the 2600 block of North Lake Shore Drive about 3:25 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was with a group of friends when he jumped in.

Fortis was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police. He lived in the 7500 block of West Belmont.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
